About Curtis L. Thompson II

I was raised in the Cleveland Collinwood Area. I was the youngest of three children and grew up with my sister, Rhoni. At the age of six, I trailed in my big sister’s footsteps and became involved in Track and Field with the Catholic Youth Organization (CYO) at the elementary school my sister and I attended. In my pre-teen years, I participated in football, basketball and soccer; and was more of a participant than a competitor. My parents had the philosophy of keeping us involved in things that would make us think. I played drums, participated in music theory, acting, art and my favorite youth activity…chess. As young children, my sister and I worked on voter registration drives and on political campaigns with my mom. My mom would say to us that volunteering your services in the community is the best way to make change. I never forgot that. After my parents divorced; I went to live with my dad and attended Orange High School.

I knew that I would need a scholarship to go to college and set a goal to go undefeated in track and field for my senior year of high school. I felt that if I accomplished this, I would earn a scholarship. I trained hard all summer and entered my senior year having represented the United States as a Sports Ambassador winning two-championships in Sydney, Australia. I then went into my senior year full-throttle and set Orange High school’s record in both the 100 and 200 meters. I also achieved the Ohio State Title in both the 100 and 200 meters. I reached my goal of going undefeated senior year and received several scholarship offers. Because of its rich tradition, I chose to attend Alabama State University (ASU).

I graduated from the ASU's, College of Business with a degree in Computer Information Systems. I realized that this degree would prepare me for the economic changes occurring in the world today. This degree focused on business technology, marketing, management, programming languages and economics. The knowledge obtained would allow me the capacity to understand how to appropriately apply opportunities provided by modern technology to real-world needs.

After college, I returned home to Cleveland. I became the Systems Administrator and Webmaster for the Executive branch of government in East Cleveland where I spear-headed the re-development of the City's (www.eastcleveland.org) web project and the City achieved an international award for interactive media from the Horizon Interactive Awards. I also worked very closely with all other department heads to create an information tranfer system that would allow us to interact with the residents more efficiently. Now, I operate my own business www.iNAMiX.com. This is a creative technical marketing firm that focuses on using the latest technology to aid businesses in economic growth. I have volunteered as an assistant track coach for Shaw High School and I'm currently a mentor for the Jobs Partnership Program at my church, Mt. Zion Congregational. I serve on the Community Relations Council for Job Corps and the Cleveland Women’s Council. I am the Cuyahoga County Young Democrats, Media Chairman and a member of the Northeast Shores Development Corporation Marketing Committee.
