Dear Friends,

My campaign began in early May. On the campaign trail, I've spoken to hundreds of people and the question that I'm most often asked... "What gave you the motivation to run for council in Ward 11?"

My reply..."I have a passion for Collinwood, as I was born and raised here. I’ve seen the good in my neighborhood and I’ve seen the complacency of an area which has so much to offer." Growing up in the 80’s I've encountered gang violence face-to-face. I know what goes through the minds of troubled youth. Growing up in the Greater Collinwood area my parents instilled in me the capacity to think outside the box, fight unrighteous societal norms, and focus on doing what is right to push for progress. I carried these ideals with me through high school, college, and then into my professional career. I also used these ideals to shape my actions that led me to be an accomplished athlete, activist, mentor and government official. These are the same ideals that I aspire to daily. I believe Ward 11 can grow together as a community to “Green Up” and “Tech Up” as we do our part to move forward with the rest of the Northeast Ohio Region.

Collinwood became a part of Cleveland in 1910, and ethnic people migrated to Collinwood because of the work provided by the railroads in the mid 20’s in search of providing a quality life for their communities. Since Collinwood became a part of Cleveland, it has been a breeding-ground and conduit for extraordinary individuals; so when I think about people such as Congresswoman Mary Jo Kilroy, Senator George Voinovich, Grammy Award Winner Frankie Yankovic and Heisman Trophy Winner Desmond Howard, I am encouraged to push for change. We are a community of accomplished individuals; we are a community of great thinkers; we are in the new millennium, and the world is transitioning into the information age. We want to get back to innovation and creative thinking to enhance our quality of life. We want to look towards increasing new sustainable measures and using technology in engaging the community. It is time for us, to move Cleveland forward; it is time for us, to make it happen!

To the residents of Ward 11 as we recognize where we are and move toward the future we are optimistic about our growth together. I ask for your support and I ask for your vote. Also, I've met many who are not residents, but who are excited for our community and therefore want to get involved. We welcome you with open arms.

To all, we need volunteers and your financial support as we walk through the community to deliver our message of growth.

Sincerely,

Curtis L. Thompson II
